The Holy Family Catholic Primary School

During our RE carpet time we talked about the importance of making people feel welcome. We decided to make a poster to welcome everyone to Nursery. We worked as a team to draw ourselves on the poster and helped stick it up outside so everyone knows they are welcome.

We enjoyed showing our families some of the learning we have been doing this half term at our topic celebration morning.

Father Norbert led our Welcome Service. Our families joined us we sang and listened to a reading from the bible. We shared the activities we enjoy doing in Nursery. We were welcomed into the Holy Family school family.

After reading Brown bear what do you see? we explored how we use our eyes. We recognised that when our eyes are closed we cannot see anything but we can feel things with our hands. We made a den and realised it was dark, so we decided to use the torches to help us see. We explored how we can change the colour of the light by using different coloured pieces of cellophane.

As part of our Catholic Social teaching we have been discovering God's wonderful creations. We made binoculars to help us see God's world all around us. We drew our favourite parts of God's creations then gathered together to place them around a globe, saying "Thank you God" as each one was placed.

After recalling the story Polar Bear, polar bear what do you hear, we found out some facts about where polar bears live and looked at the arctic. In CIL we discovered that some of the animals had been frozen in ice blocks! We explored different ways of melting the ice (hammering, pipettes with water, spoons) and discussed what we found.

We read Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear? We made collage polar bears. We printed snow backgrounds and added fingerprint snowflakes.

We made listening headbands with big ears to help us hear all the sounds around us. We went on a listening walk around school and talked about all the different sounds we heard. Then we went back into Nursery and made a class sounds picture of everything we had heard.

We have been learning how to be good learners like brown rabbit. We tried different challenges and discovered we have to keep trying and not give up. We talked about how we felt when we achieved the tasks.

We have had a super first week at Nursery playing in all the areas with new friends.
